About Mr. Calvo:

Mr. Calvo was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School where he participated in the theater arts program and gained his love for production. Upon graduation, Calvo attended UTSA where he was seeking a degree in International Business. After 3 years Calvo realized it was filmmaking that was his true passion and he began to pursue his writing/directing career. He attended San Antonio College where he began taking courses in the Radio, Television, Film department and wrote for The Ranger.
In 2006 Calvo established the production company Machina Cinema alongside producers Perla Rivera and Joe F. Gallegos III and since then has written, directed and produced short films, commercials, music videos, feature films and worked as various crew on regional productions.

Most recently Mr. Calvo was Writer/Director/Editor for the feature film Stage V which was Executively Produced by Jermoe Serot and San Antonio Spurs player Boris Diaw.

INTRO TO FILM


INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS


The course educates students on the full spectrum of the film making production process. Topics include Scriptwriting, Lighting, Hair and Makeup, Wardrobe, Art Department, Camera, Sound and Grip and Electric all covered within Pre production, Production and Post production.

At the end of this course, you will
  • Know how to work within a video production
  • be able to be proficient in Pre Production, Production and Post Production
  • understand all basic aspects of Audio/Video Production


NEEDS AND RESOURCES


Required Background

Although NO prerequisites are required to take this class it is helpful that you

  • know basic computer skills
  • be able to work on a team in an effective and positive manner
  • understand that filmmaking takes time

General Expectations:
Smile and be positive. All tools have been provided to you so please leave your cell phones at home. Food and drinks can harm the equipment and be a distraction so please eat and drink before or after class. Arrive on time. Stay on task. Be a good listener. Respect yourself and others. Do Your Best.

Make-up Policy
The student is responsible for obtaning and finishing the missing work by the next regular semester. Incomplete final grades are only appropriate if unusual circumstances cause a student to miss one or two major assignments or tests.

Grading Scale:
A = 100 – 90, B = 89 – 80, C = 79 – 70, D = 69 – 60, F = 59 - 0

*You must earn a 70 or higher to pass this class
